Suddenly there is an aural
and visual warning coming from the cockpit indication systeem. The capatain and
copilot reacts to the warnings and they found out, that the oilpressure of
engine number three is too low.
The captain takes the emergency
checklist, and is looking for the procedure of an low oli press indicarion.
Accordingly they have to
retard the thrust lever of that engine and they have to wait for about two
minutes before they shut down the engine.
The pilot retatrdes the engine lever, and the engine starts to decelerate. The engine needs to cool down for about two minutes.
Mean while the crew contacts
the traffic tower to inform them about the situation.
They know they cant
continue the flight on three engines, and they decided to return.
The captain informs the
flight attendends on board and the passengers about the situation , and
everbody is dissapointed about the return.
After following the
emergency procedure engine number three will be shut down
and the pilot is contacting
Air traffic controlabout their decision about returning.
Because the takeoff weight
is much higher than the landing weight, the crew has to dump a lot aproxx
100.000 kg of fuel, and they must do this in een particilair aerea
usually above the sea.
When arrived at than point
the crew starts t6o dump the nesseccary amount of fuel.
After the dump, the airplane
is returning on its route and the crew are making preperations for the
landing.
They have to remind, that
een engine shutdown, has also consequences for the landing, because they are
missing one reverser system, meaning a longer runway
Or they have to break longer
and this usually costing hot brakes, or damage dtires.
The landing was going very
well, and in the meantime the ground has been informed about the defected
engine number three.
When the plane is arriving
at the gate, maintenance is standing ready to take over the airplane, but they
have to start a investigation about the trouble.
The airplane will be shifted
out of route, en will be towed to the hangar.
The crew is over the
slotting time, and they are going home.
The passengers are very
dissapoinbted and angry, becoase there is no other aiplane available at that
time and the first flight will be the next day.
All the pasengers will be
checked into the nearest hotel, and they have to wait
until the next
morning,
